2018 Genesis G70 spied almost disguise free
The new Genesis G70 sports sedan has been spied almost completely disguise-free ahead of its launch later this week.
Korean Beast, a Saudi automotive forum, published these photos of Genesis’ BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class competitor, but it’s not clear where the images were sourced from.
The G70 shares its rear-wheel drive platform with the Kia Stinger. According to Guido Schenken, Hyundai Australia’s public relations manager, the G70 will be shorter, lighter and ride on a shorter wheelbase than its Kia sibling.
Unlike the Kia, which is a five-door fastback, the G70 will be a traditional three-box sedan. It features styling cues, such as the grille and tail-lights, which link it stylistically to the larger G80 and G90 models.
The Kia and Genesis rear-wheel drive twins will also feature unique interior designs. As is the fashion, the G70 has a free-standing tablet-style infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard.
Engine options for the G70 will include a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6. In the Kia, the 2.0-litre motor generates 190kW/353Nm, while the V6 makes 272kW/510Nm. For the non-premium brand, both engines are paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic.
Australia
The Genesis G70 is scheduled to arrive in Australia showrooms from early 2018. Along with the G80, an updated and rebranded Hyundai Genesis, these two sedans will mark the launch of the new standalone luxury marque.
Although pricing and specifications are yet to be confirmed, it’s understood the Genesis G70 will be priced above the Kia Stinger, which tops out just under $60,000, but below its German and Japanese luxury rivals, with an entry-level model starting in the $50,000 to $60,000 range.
