On track for an official reveal sometime this year, the new model is a
wagon variant of the existing high-performance BMW M3 sedan, revealed back in 2020.The latest images reveal little enthusiasts of the brand weren’t expecting, combining the concave tailgate of the standard 3 Series Touring, with M3-specific large side air inlets and roof spoiler, and the standard M3 sedan’s controversial ‘coffin’ grille at the nose.
Past rumours and official teasers suggest the M3 Touring will be offered solely in flagship Competition xDrive guise, ditching the base sedan’s manual gearbox and rear-drive layout for an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
That means twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine will sit under the bonnet,
sending 375kW/650Nm to all four wheels. In the standard M3 sedan, allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 3.5 seconds.
While BMW revealed promotional pics of the M3 Touring rear earlier this week (shown below), this is the first time the car has been seen in full from front to back – albeit in very low resolution.A launch date for the new wagon is yet to be locked in, however it’s expected official images and specifications will be revealed later this year.
A spokesperson for the marque in Australia told Drive: “We plan to introduce the M3 Touring and will advice on arrival timing and prices closer to the launch date.”
It’s likely the first customer examples of the
2023 BMW M3 Touring will arrive Down Under sometime next year. Rumours suggest production will begin this November, ahead of first local deliveries likely in early 2023.The M3 Touring is expected to debut as part of the facelifted M3 (or ‘LCI’) range, which is rumoured to add the iDrive 8 twin-screen dashboard from the new iX and i4 electric vehicles.
