2022 Peugeot new cars

The French manufacturer will bring a range of electrified vehicles Down Under in 2022.

Peugeot enjoyed a growth spurt in 2021, with sales up by around 25 per cent year-on-year. Admittedly, this came off a low base but any increase in a market beset by COVID-19 difficulties and supply shortages is noteworthy.

The French brand will hoping to maintain that momentum this year, with a slew of new variants, one model update and most importantly, an all-new model.

A plug-in hybrid will bolster the Peugeot 3008 range in the first quarter of the new year (January to March). It will be joined by a plug-in hybrid variant of the Peugeot 508 medium sedan. They represent Peugeot’s first foray into electrification in Australia, one that will be expanded with an unconfirmed battery-electric vehicle – likely the Peugeot e-2008 small SUV.

“In 2022, we will introduce electric variants to the Australian market. Whilst we are not currently in a position to confirm what they will be, various studies are underway and favourable,” a Peugeot Citroen Australia spokesperson told Drive.

The French manufacturer’s range of light commercial vehicles are also expected to receive a refresh in early 2022, while an all-new Peugeot 308 is scheduled for the third quarter of the year, having originally been slated for early 2022. Details are still to be confirmed, but the 308’s range is likely to include a plug-in hybrid variant, based on official documents seen by Drive.
