2018 Bentley Continental GT3 race car unveiled

The new Bentley Continental GT3 race car has been unveiled. Based on the latest Continental coupe, the car will go on sale from June 2018.

Under the GT3’s bonnet is the brand’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. With a redesigned dry sump, and intake and exhaust systems, the motor is said to develop over 410kW of power.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a Ricardo six-speed sequential transmission, carbon-fibre propshaft, and a limited-slip differential.

Designed by Bentley and its partner M-Sport, the Continental GT3 looks like its road-going namesake, but its body has been redesigned for maximum downforce, and features a large carbon-fibre rear wing and diffuser, and other aerodynamic adjustments.

Thanks to its largely aluminium structure, and stripped out interior, the GT3 weighs under 1300kg. As it’s a racing car, the GT3 has an FIA-apporoved roll cage, six-point safety harness, fire extinguisher and pneumatic jack.

Under the aggressively flared and vented wheel arches, the car rides on 18-inch BBS alloy wheels with 355/705 Pirelli P-Zero tyres. These are connected to a double wishbone suspension system with four-way adjustable dampers at both ends.

Braking power comes from ventilated iron discs at all four corners, with six-piston callipers at the front, four-piston units at the rear, and a driver adjustable braking bias.
