The 2022 Mazda CX-5 facelift has arrived in Australia, priced from $32,180 before on-road costs.

As reported, six variants of the updated CX-5 are available locally – with Mazda Australia adding a new Touring Active variant, but the non-SP, ‘standard’ GT axed – across four carry-over engine options, front or all-wheel drive, and manual or automatic transmissions.

Prices have increased by between $1000 and $1800 across the range – though the availability of diesel power has been cut back across the range, increasing the price of entry into the 2.2-litre diesel engine from $42,490 before on-road costs for a 2021 Maxx Sport, to $45,680 for a 2022 Touring Active.

Mazda has treated its strong-selling CX-5 to a new look for 2022, with a restyled front fascia with new LED headlights, and revised tail-light and wheel designs. Inside, there are reshaped front seats for improved comfort, improvements to

suspension, noise and vibration levels, a new Mi-Drive mode selector for petrol all-wheel-drive models, and a new Zircon Sand Metallic colour.

As reported by Drive in late 2021, standard equipment levels have increased across the range, with the entry-level Maxx gaining a head-up display (previously exclusive to the Touring), 7.0-inch digital instrument display (formerly limited to the Akera), and a new ‘configurable rear cargo area board’.

New for 2022 is the Touring Active variant, which adds a unique body kit with silver design elements, lime green exterior and interior accents, and grey 17-inch alloy wheels over the Touring on which it’s based.

New features on certain higher-grade variants include upgraded adaptive LED headlights (Akera), body-coloured exterior cladding (Akera), wireless phone charging (Touring and up), and a hands-free power tailgate (GT SP and up).

A full list of standard features is included at the bottom of this story.

Opening the engine range is a 2.0-litre non-turbo petrol four-cylinder – exclusive to the base Maxx – which sends 115kW and 200Nm to the front wheels through a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

Available across the broader range is a carry-over 140kW/252Nm 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard in the Maxx Sport, with all other models offering all-wheel drive as standard (or optional in the Maxx Sport).

The Touring Active and Akera can be had with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder, routing 140kW and 450Nm to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic.

Sitting atop the engine range is a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder – exclusive to GT SP and Akera grades – sending 170kW and 420Nm to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 range is on sale now.
