2022 Genesis new cars

Hyundai’s luxurious offshoot Genesis will continue padding out its range of high-end vehicles in 2022, with additions to begin arriving as soon as January.

Last year (2021) was busy for South Korean prestige manufacturer Genesis, with the Hyundai offshoot attempting to establish a foothold in the luxury segment dominated by traditional German rivals. The brand opened more concept stores to show off its wares, a number of new releases were unveiled and launched, and it even delved into the electric vehicle space.

But 2022 promises to be even more significant as the brand diversifies its line-up to include electric versions of its current cars, an all-new dedicated electric SUV related to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and a sport-styled version of its flagship sedan product, the G80.

This new variant will arrive in January 2022, stocking a choice between two engines (in overseas models) and updated styling to set it apart from regular G80s. Under the skin, the G80 Sport’s drive character will be enhanced by rear-wheel steering, a stiffer suspension tune, and a launch control system for the V6 variant.

One of the more exciting reveals for the brand will arrive in the form of the GV60, a dedicated electric car which adopts an SUV body style and bold styling. Three versions will be available, comprising ‘standard’ rear-wheel-drive, ‘standard’ all-wheel-drive, and range-topping ‘performance’ variants.

Genesis claims the most potent variant can sprint from zero to 100km/h in 4.0 seconds. Each will be powered by a 77.4kWh battery pack.

Continuing the electric theme, two new variants of the G80 large sedan and GV70 medium SUV will arrive on local soil in 2022. Each are able to boast a sub-five-second 0-100km/h sprint, while both 400- and 800-volt DC charging is supported.
