Infiniti to launch EVs from 2021
Infiniti has announced it will introduce new electrified models from 2021, with its first pure-electric offering due the same year.
The luxury subsidiary of Nissan says “customers can expect beautifully-designed vehicles like the Q Inspiration concept” featuring a “whole new level of electrified driving performance”.
Part of the strategy will include models utilising the company’s e-Power range-extended hybrid technology – using a small-capacity petrol engine that charges a high-output battery as opposed to an external power source.
Infiniti claims the e-Power system provides the convenience of re-fuelling with petrol like a traditional combustion-powered vehicle rather than charging for hours, while offering the same silent driving experience as an EV.
A mixture of e-Power and all-electric vehicles will be offered from 2021, with the company projecting that electrified vehicles will account for half of its global sales volume by 2025.
