2019 Audi Q3 spied testing in the snow

The second-generation Audi Q3 has been spied again, this time undergoing testing in the snow-filled Arctic north of Sweden.

Compared to the vehicle spied in Germany last October, this vehicle only exposes more of its tail-light design.

Thanks to the reflectivity of the snowy landscape, we do we get to see some more of the new Q3’s detailing, include the subtle shoulders over both the front and rear wheel arches.

Up front, the new Q3 features a version of the grille first seen on the Q2. The grille is flanked by a notched set of headlights. Sadly, the large lights atop this Q3 prototype aren’t destined for production.

Under the skin, the Q3 is expected to be based on the MQB platform for front- and all-wheel drive with transverse engines, and should be closely related, mechanically at least, to the latest Volkswagen Tiguan.

Power for most models should come from a selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

The photographers from our spy agency have reported hearing the distinctive burble of a five-cylinder engine power some prototypes wearing Tiguan bodies.

This indicates the next-generation RSQ3 will feature a version of the turbocharged five-pot engine that powers the TT RS.

In March last year, Rupert Stadler, Audi’s chairman, said the new Q3 would be out by the end of 2017. We’re now in 2018, and the first-generation model is still soldiering on.
