Nissan Skyline Nismo editions unveiled as Japan-only specials
Two limited-edition Skyline sedans have been released by Nissan’s high-performance division, with one celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first six-cylinder powered model designed for racing.
The Nissan Skyline Nismo has been revealed – a high-performance version of the sedan last sold in Australia four years ago as an Infiniti – with aesthetic upgrades, greater performance, and a production run capped at 1000 vehicles.
An even more exclusive Nissan Skyline Limited has also been announced to commemorate the 60th anniversary of a special race-derived model, with just 100 examples to be made.
Nissan has upped the power of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 from 298kW to 309kW – matching the recently-unveiled Nissan Z Nismo coupe with which the engine is shared – while torque has risen from 475Nm to 550Nm.
As with the Z Nismo, the Skyline Nismo will power the rear wheels solely through a specially-tuned automatic transmission – though the Skyline, previously sold in Australia in standard form as the Infiniti Q50, uses a seven-speed gearbox rather than the Z’s nine-speed auto.

The sedan’s suspension has also been tuned to reduce body roll, while Nismo engineers have made improvements to the Skyline’s braking system.
Nissan says a special adhesive has been used on the front and rear windscreens, which it claims improves the structural rigidity of the car.
Nismo-branded lip spoilers front and rear, and larger and wider Nismo-exclusive 19-inch alloy lightweight wheels made by Enkei provide the vehicles with a unique look.
Inside, the Recaro seats, steering wheel, and dash have all received the Nismo treatment – including a speedometer that reaches 280km/h.

The Skyline Nismo Limited – of which the regular, non-special-edition version was sold in Australia as the Infiniti Q50 until 2019 – commemorates the second-generation Skyline released 60 years ago, which coincidentally wasn’t sold under the Nissan badge in Australia either but rather as the Prince Skyline.
Specifically, the Nismo Limited celebrates the ‘S54A-1’ Skyline, of which just 100 were made to homologate a more powerful racing car, manufactured to accommodate a six-cylinder engine.
The Limited features wheels finished in matte gunmetal paint, a ‘takumi’ label of the worker who assembled the engine, and a “high-precision” engine. Just 100 will be built, in either white, Stealth Grey, or Dark Metal Grey.
Both the Nissan Skyline Nismo and the Nismo Limited are exclusive to the Japanese market.
