First ever Ferrari SUV breaks cover
The Ferrari
Purosangue could launch later this year as the world’s most powerful petrol-powered SUV, and will bring new competition to the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX.
Ferrari‘s first ever SUV – dubbed the ‘Purosangue‘ and due to go on sale later this year – has been revealed in spy photos from the marque’s Maranello factory floor.
Released to Instagram overnight by CarDesignWorld, the new images show a long scooped bonnet, sloping coupe-style rear, sleek LED headlights, heavily sculpted doors, and surprisingly small alloy wheels.
While the
Ferrari vehicle was recently spied under thick black camouflage sheeting in Italy, this is the first time its finer details have been clearly visible.
It’s still unclear what engine will drive the wheels. However, previous reports have suggested a flagship non-turbo V12 will be offered alongside an electrified V6 or V8 base model.
If this proves to be accurate, it’s possible the range-topping variant will launch as the most powerful petrol-powered SUV ever built by a major manufacturer.
The Ferrari Purosangue is due to go into series production later this year, with the first examples likely arriving in Australian showrooms sometime in 2023.
Despite holding out until now, the decision to build a Ferrari SUV was prompted by increasing demand for large five-door vehicles – particularly in growing markets China, Russia, and the Middle East.
Competitors Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Porsche already offer high-riding alternatives, and the sale of SUVs has more-than-doubled over the past decade (as a percentage of market share).
