McLaren Artura deliveries pushed back again

The struggling British supercar maker has pushed back deliveries of its first series-production hybrid vehicle.

Customer deliveries of the 2022 McLaren Artura have been delayed once again – this time, reportedly due to semiconductor shortages.

The

hybrid supercar was originally slated to arrive in overseas showrooms during October 2020, however the international launch was subsequently pushed back until June 2021 – with first Australian arrives around October 2021.

US and European deliveries have now been rescheduled for July 2022, Automotive News reports.

A spokesperson for McLaren in Australia couldn’t pin down a specific

local launch date for the model, however confirmed orders would be fulfilled at some point in 2022.

Power in the Artura comes from a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine paired with a rear-mounted electric motor, combining for total outputs of 500kW and 720Nm.

This is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, allowing the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 3.0 seconds on the way to an electronically-capped top speed of 330km/h.

While chip shortages do continue to plague the automotive industry and are reported to be primarily responsible for this particular delay, McLaren’s troubles run deeper than supply constraints.

Last year the British car maker was forced to sell off its factory and several historic Formula One cars to raise funds, while also reportedly entering negotiations for a buyout with Volkswagen subsidiary Audi – though the company denied these rumours.
