Tesla Cybertruck now on sale… as a whistle

The $50 trinket has been described by some as a thinly-veiled dig at whistleblowers within

Tesla.

Electric vehicle specialist Tesla has finally brought a variation of its Cybertruck design to market – but it’s not the road-going ute originally promised.

The ‘Cyberwhistle’ is a sports whistle loosely inspired by the ever-delayed concept’s silhouette.

Pricing started from $US50 ($AU70) earlier this week, however the product is now tagged as ‘sold out’ – with examples subsequently listed on eBay for as much as $US450 ($AU650).

Some media outlets interpreted the

Cyberwhistle’s release as a thinly-veiled jab at ‘whistleblowers’ – a term for individuals who report corporate misconduct to authorities – within Tesla, however this is purely speculative.

The real Tesla Cybertruck was revealed in 2019, and originally slated for customer deliveries during 2020.

A series of developmental and safety concerns pushed the launch back, however the manufacturer now says it is on track to bring the vehicle to market in 2022.

Officially, Tesla claims the Cybertruck will be offered in Australia and currently accepts $AU150 deposits to secure a build slot.

However, safety experts suggest it’s highly unlikely the vehicle would be approved for roads Down Under, citing stringent local pedestrian impact tests.

Meanwhile, launch of the Tesla Model Y – currently the best-selling electric SUV in the world – was recently delayed in Australia. You can read about that vehicle in full by clicking here.
