2022 Hyundai new cars
Hyundai has had a big year for new model arrivals, but there is more to come in 2022.
Hyundai Australia has had a busy second half of the year in 2021, with the arrival of three new or updated hot hatches (and a performance sedan), the arrival of the new-generation Hyundai Tucson SUV (its biggest selling model), and the overdue replacement of the Hyundai iLoad van and iMax people mover, the Staria Load and Staria respectively.
In 2021, Hyundai also introduced the updated version of the Santa Fe SUV, and gave the Hyundai Venue city SUV a minor update to broaden its appeal after initially not quite hitting the mark.
In 2022, as with its sister brand Kia and its twin under the skin, the Kia Sorento, the Hyundai Santa Fe will be available as a Toyota-like petrol-electric hybrid.
And given our appetite for SUVs, we could also see a luxury six-seater version of the Santa Fe (three rows of two ‘captains chairs’).
There is also said to be a plan to introduce a more affordable version of the Ioniq 5 electric car, with a smaller battery pack and less driving range.
And lastly, this is by no means confirmed, but Hyundai Australia is understood to be considering a version of the Staria Load with better headlights than the halogens on the new model (among the worst we’ve experienced in more than a decade). (Footnote: the headlights are not a problem for the Hyundai Staria people mover, which has LEDs).
It is possible Hyundai Australia may take things a step further and deliver a more luxurious version of its delivery van.
Given the amount of time these vehicles spend on the road – and the distances they travel, often on regional and inter-city journeys – Hyundai would be well advised to fix the headlights.
