2022 Citroen new cars

It hasn’t been the strongest year for the French manufacturer, but with the brand potentially launching its first all-electric vehicle Down Under next year, 2022 could be a step forward.

Citroen’s sales figures are down 19.1 per cent, with the brand selling a total of 144 vehicles in Australia over the first 11 months of this year. 18 of those are accounted for by the recently-launched C4 – a coupe-styled SUV serving as an indirect replacement for the former C4 Cactus.

In 2022 the brand will launch the C5 X, a new high-riding wagon. Set to launch in Q3, Citroën are yet to confirm if the plug-in hybrid option will be offered down under.

Along with this, the launch of Citroen’s first electric vehicle in Australia is under evaluation, the e-C4, with local arrivals possible (but far from confirmed) towards the end of 2022, or sometime in 2023. An all-electric version of the C4 small SUV, it has a claimed WLTP range of 350km and is powered by a single front axle-mounted motor, developing 100kW/260Nm.

The e-C4 is currently sold in Europe, carrying an increase in price of nearly 50 per cent over its petrol-powered counterpart.
