Long-delayed Aston Martin Valkyrie ready for deliveries

After numerous production delays and reliability hiccups, the $4.3 million

865kW/900Nm V12 hybrid hypercar is ready to hit the track.

The long-delayed Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar – which was shown off as a concept in 2016, and originally slated for production by 2019 – is finally ready for customer deliveries.

Just 150 examples of the track-only two-seater will be built at the company’s Gaydon factory, with prices starting from $US3.2 million ($AU4.3 million). All examples of the standard hardtop variant have reportedly been sold, however a convertible is set to go into production in the second half of 2022.

A naturally-aspirated 6.5-litre Cosworth V12 petrol engine and single electric motor send a combined 865kW/900Nm to the rear wheels via a single-clutch, seven-speed automated manual transmission.

This allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 2.5 seconds, on the way to a top speed in excess of 402km/h.

Aston Martin CEO, Tobias Moers, said: “It is an immensely proud moment for us to complete our first ever hypercar.

“The Aston Martin Valkyrie programme has tested everyone who has worked on it to the limit but the commitment to the dream has produced a truly incredible car, a Formula One car for the road.

“The Valkyrie is born out of the steadfast dedication of a large group of highly skilled engineers and technicians who have worked tirelessly to get Valkyrie to the production stage … I’m sure our customers will be delighted with what they have achieved,” he concluded.

Earlier this year the 2022

Aston Martin Valkyrie made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, however seemingly broke down at low speed and had to be towed from the historic hillclimb event.
