Alfa Romeo Giulia with more powerful 260kW engine spotted on service website
The Alfa Romeo Giulia range may be in line for a more powerful engine to bridge the gap between the regular models, and the tyre-frying Quadrifoglio.
A more powerful engine was spotted by Bozi Tatarevic, a freelance automotive journalist, on Mopar Tech Authority, a global service and parts website run by Fiat Chrysler.
In a screencap posted on his Twitter feed (above), there are four engine options listed for the 2018 Giulia: a 209kW (280hp) 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a new 260kW (350hp) 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, and the Quadrifoglio’s 377kW (505hp) 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6.
If this leak is on the money, the new high output 260kW 2.0-litre petrol engine could be used in an updated Veloce model, and reduce the still substantial gap up to the BMW M3-chasing Quadrifoglio.
Given the need to spread the development costs of this new motor between as many models as possible, it’s highly likely it will also end up powering the Stelvio crossover.
Again, if it does, it will close the gulf between the volume selling variants and the Quadrifoglio model.
