Scott from Ichiban, also known as Hightower, is recognisable to some from his appearances on the hit Youtube show, Mighty Car Mods. Their shop specialises in Subarus, both mechanical and performance work as well as spare parts.
They often have shells, parts and spares lying around, so one day they looked at a Forester shell and thought it would make for a good laugh to build a shop car out of spare parts, and “The Toaster” was born.
Like most cheap fun builds, The Toaster has kept progressing and is now a 10-second street car, proven by the fact it drove from Sydney to Cootamundra (over 200 miles) for the 2017 Motive DVD Drag Battle event.
For 2017 a 2.3-litre stroker engine was built and a Precision 6062 fitted.
A mild setup by the event standards but 600 wheel horsepower is a lot for the little Forester. An STi six-speed transfers power to the drag radial tyres under the corners.
Above: You can see here why Scott is called Hightower, and why the extra headroom of a Forester over a WRX comes in handy.
Although not over the top in the power and mods department, Scott is a gun on the tree at the strip and will leave you sleeping at the line. The simple setup is also more consistent and easy to drive – so, in a heads-up race, it can hold its own.
Thanks to Andrew Hawkins from www.motivedvd.com.au for this one!
