Audi R8 V10 RWS: Limited edition rear-wheel-drive V10 missile coming to Australia

Audi has taken the wraps off the incredible looking and sounding rear-wheel drive Audi R8 V10 RWS, and it’s coming to Australia.

Limited to just 999 units (available in both Coupe and Spyder), the rear-wheel-drive Audi R8 V10 RWS weighs 50kg lighter than its quattro sibling and pumps out an impressive 397kW of power and 570Nm of torque.

Despite not using an all-wheel drive system, it’s capable of moving from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds (or 3.8 seconds for the Spyder). Each vehicle is individually numbered, wearing the build number proudly on the dashboard.

Buyers can also option an LMS GT 4-esque red stripe pattern that runs across the bonnet, roof and rear.

Weighing just 1509kg, the Audi R8 V10 RWS is 50kg lighter than its all-wheel-drive sibling. The chassis has been tuned to now cope with all of the torque going to the rear, which Audi says delivers an engaging driving experience.

According to the man behind the mode, Audi sport CEO Stephan Winkelmann, this thing is built for the driver that wants to be on the razor’s edge.

“The R8 V10 RWS is made for purists,” said Winkelmann.

“A limited-edition special model for customers with an appreciation for essential driving enjoyment, the R8 V10 RWS is an absolutely exclusive offer. With its mid-mounted V10 engine and rear-wheel drive, it successfully brings the driving concept of our R8 LMS racing car to the streets.”

While numbers are still being finalised (both in terms of availability and pricing), Australia is expected to get a handful of cars, with pricing expected to be between $300,000 and $350,000, with the first deliveries expected to start around March.
