2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport preliminary price detailed specs announced
Toyota dealers have been advised of indicative pricing – and more specification details – for the flagship HiLux GR Sport due in showrooms by the end of this year.
EXCLUSIVE
The 2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport is due in Australian showrooms from September – pending unforeseen delays – priced from approximately $75,000 plus on-road costs, dealers have been advised.
This preliminary price guide – which is expected to translate to $74,990 plus on-road costs and more than $80,000 drive-away when it becomes official – will make the Toyota HiLux GR Sport the most expensive HiLux sold in Australia to date.
A $74,990 plus on-road costs price point would position the Toyota HiLux GR Sport about $4200 more than the current top-of-the-range model, the Toyota HiLux Rogue ($70,760 plus on-road costs from this month, up from $70,200 previously).
And $10,000 dearer than the previous performance flagship, the supercharged TRD Toyota HiLux sold in Australia in 2008 and 2009 (which topped out at $64,990 plus on-road costs).
Toyota dealers have been advised production of the Toyota HiLux GR Sport is due to commence in Thailand in August – along with other minor mid-year tech upgrades for the rest of the HiLux range – with the first local showroom arrivals due from mid-September.
The Toyota HiLux GR Sport will only be available in five colours – solid white (Glacier White), pearl white (Frosted White), silver (Stunning Silver), black (Eclipse Black), and red (Feverish Red), the latter exclusive to this model.
In addition, three of the above colours (solid white, pearl white, and red) will be available to order with a black roof as an extra-cost option.
As previously reported, the Toyota HiLux GR Sport will be powered by an uprated version of the 2.8-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine (165kW and 550Nm, up 15kW and 50Nm compared to the same engine in the SR, SR5 and Rogue model grades).
The high output engine will be paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission. Despite the extensive changes, maximum towing capacity remains 3500kg. It is unclear at this stage what impact the other modifications will have on the vehicle’s payload as that data is yet to be released.
While Toyota has not made any outright performance claims, it has shared indicative gains of 0.3 seconds quicker to 60km/h and 0.6 seconds quicker to 100km/h compared to a Toyota HiLux SR5.
Based on testing by Drive of the Toyota HiLux SR5, this means the GR Sport is likely to stop the clocks in about 10 seconds – roughly four seconds slower than the Ford Ranger Raptor twin-turbo V6 petrol (zero to 100km/h in six seconds, as tested).
As previously reported (and as is the case with the Toyota HiLux Rogue) the Toyota HiLux GR Sport has longer axles front and rear – to create a wider footprint – and overhauled suspension for better road-holding.
Four-wheel disc brakes are fitted (four-piston calipers up front, as per the SR, SR5 and Rogue – and single-piston “floating” calipers in lieu of drum brakes on the rear, as per the Rogue).
While the exact price for the Toyota HiLux GR Sport is yet to be announced, dealers have been advised they can start taking orders based on this indicative pricing.
