2014-2017 Hyundai Tucson Veloster recalled for fire risk
An engine fault identified in more than 13,000 Hyundai vehicles in Australia could cause an engine failure and an oil fire, according to the recall notice.
Hyundai Australia has recalled 13,548 examples of its Tucson SUV and Veloster hatchback models built between 2014 and 2017, citing an internal fault with 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre engines.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says:
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the engine connecting rod bearing could fail prematurely causing engine damage. If this occurs, engine oil may leak in the presence of an ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire.”

The recall warns owners to safely stop their vehicle if the engine if it “exhibits an unusual noise or generates smoke, or if your vehicle’s instrument cluster displays an engine warning light,” with the ignition to be turned off and all occupants to evacuate the vehicle.
The recall affects FS Veloster models fitted with the ‘1.6GDI’ engine, and TL Tucson variants with the ‘2.0MI’ engine.
