Video: Shocking footage shows police officer narrowly escape roadside collision

A police officer in the US has miraculously avoided injury after a speeding car crashed into a vehicle stopped on the roadside, with the incident captured on the police dash cam.

A police officer in the USA has narrowly avoided serious injury after frightening footage captured by his dash cam shows an out-of-control BMW colliding with another BMW stopped on the roadside.

The incident, in Fairfax, Virginia, shows the police officer talking to the driver of a BMW 7 Series that has reportedly been pulled over for speeding. In the distance, a BMW M3 (F80) approaching from the other direction is shown to lose control while negotiating a bend in the road and skids across the median, narrowly missing a BMW Z4 and colliding with the stopped 7 Series.

It was estimated that the M3 was travelling in excess of 200km/h in an 80km/h speed zone.

The officer is positioned on the passenger side of the 7 Series, and hearing the car skidding toward him, runs back toward the police car, and manages to avoid both cars by mere centimetres as they crash together.

He jumps over the barrier to check on the driver of the 7 Series, which bore the brunt of the impact. No one was hurt in the crash.

Reports from the Associated Press note the 17-year-old driver of the black M3 was charged with reckless driving, and that the driver and two teenage passengers were all wearing seatbelts.
