Fisker Ocean Force E off-road electric SUV announced

Fisker – a US electric-car start-up founded by a former designer for BMW and Aston Martin – has unveiled an off-road package for its first mass-produced model.

US electric-car start-up Fisker – founded by former BMW and Aston Martin car designer Henrik Fisker – has revealed plans for a new hardcore off-road version of its electric Ocean SUV called the Force E.

Depicted in official renderings issued by the Californian-based car maker ahead of a planned unveiling later this year, the new model has been conceived to offer greater off-road ability than the Fisker Ocean Extreme model upon which it is based.

The Force E, deliveries of which are due to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023 (October to December), is planned to offer a similar amount of power as the Ocean Extreme, which is fitted with dual electric motors delivering 415kW and 737Nm.

Australian plans for the standard Fisker Ocean are yet to be announced.

Changes to the chassis include what Fisker describes as a “substantial increase in ground clearance and ramp angles, specialised off-road dampers and 33-inch [84cm] off-road tires”.

Fisker chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker said in a media statement: “This vehicle is going to be a beast. We’ve pulled out all the stops on this one, and I think it’s exciting to enter the segment.

“And for those who love to go off-road and enjoy nature, what better way than with zero emissions?”

A series of exterior design changes, including a roof tray, imbue the new model with a more rugged appearance than earlier Ocean models.

Inside, the Force E is set to adopt harder-wearing materials along with rubber floor coverings, additional grab handles, and tie-down hooks, according to Fisker.

Development of the Force E is being carried out at Fisker’s Magic Works division in the UK under the guise of the company’s vice president of engineering, David King, whose previous credits include the Aston Martin DB7, Vantage and Rapide.

Fisker says customers will be able to upgrade all-wheel-drive Ocean models configured in Extreme or Ultra trims to incorporate the Force E developments.

Fisker, established in 2016, plans to expand its line-up to four models by 2025. It is yet to announce plans for Australian deliveries.
