Accessories you never knew you wanted – Carreel pop-up fog lamps

Pop-up headlamps are becoming increasingly rare, so why not install the next best thing… pop-up fog lamps!

Once the hallmark of exotic sports cars, and the occasional Honda, pop-up headlights have largely become a thing of the past.

A combination of pedestrian safety laws and the progression of lighting technology had relegated pop-ups to the history books… until now.

Han Chung Classics, a Volkswagen parts and tuning company from China, has developed Carreel pop-up fog lamps. Aftermarket accessory lighting with powered, flip-up covers.

For those with good memories, the concept of pop-up fog lamps isn’t new as the AW11 Toyota MR-2 used a similar system on Japanese-market models back in the 1980s.

The Carreel lamps are available with either black or white covers and with clear or yellow lenses. When powered on, the fog lamp cover motorises up to reveal the lens, and closes again when the lights are turned off. The design allows you to adjust the speed of the motor and the delay before the lights go on.

Like any accessory lighting, the Carreel lamps can be fitted to most cars, and must be connected to the high-beam circuit to be legal.

You can pre-order them online for $AU349.99 ($AU524), with delivery starting this month. They aren’t cheap, but they are unique, and would go well with the pop-up lamp roof rack we featured a couple of years ago!

Order online from the Han Chung Classics website here.
