Porsche unveils limited-edition 911 GT3 exhaust sound bar for the home
German sports car icon Porsche has revealed its latest audio accessory – a $16,000 sound bar for the home made from the 911 GT3’s stainless-steel exhaust system.
If you’ve ever wanted a piece of Porsche’s 911 GT3 in your home – but can’t afford $400,000 for the complete vehicle – the German sports car-maker’s lifestyle division might have something for you, for the price of a small car.
Created by Porsche Design, this $16,000 sound bar for homes is made from the exhaust of Porsche’s current-generation 911 GT3, turning the sports car’s stainless-steel muffler into a bespoke piece of audio equipment.
The sound bar is the latest product from Porsche Design’s catalogue, joining the car-maker’s array of watches, cookware, travel accessories and Carrera 2.7 RS-inspired Puma shoes.
Officially named 911 Sound Bar 2.0 Pro, Porsche Design’s audio system weighs approximately 65kg – measuring 1500mm in length, 460mm wide and 500mm tall. It can either be wall-mounted or placed on its included base.
According to Porsche, the 300-watt sound bar has 4K-compatible HDMI ports, Bluetooth 5.0 functionality, Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD audio technology, plus built-in Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast streaming capabilities.
Limited to 500 examples, Porsche’s soundbar is available to pre-order until December 20, priced from £9100 in the UK – equivalent to almost $16,500 in Australian currency.
In Australia, other 300-watt sound bar and subwoofer packages start from $200 to $300.
If Porsche’s limited-edition sound bar is out of your budget, the car-maker has also released a smaller 911-inspired speaker, priced from £436.00 ($AU780).
Based on the design of the 911 GT3’s exhaust pipe, the 60-watt, 21cm-long speaker weighs little more than one kilogram and can be wirelessly linked to Porsche Design’s other sound systems.
In July 2022, The 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 underwent a price increase, now priced from $388,600 plus on-road costs in Australia.
As previously reported, Australian Porsche 911 GT3 buyers have been divided between the six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic variants of the sports car, with approximately 50 per cent of customers orders coming for the three-pedal option.
