One of Elvis Presley’s favourite cars is up for grabs and with a very limited amount remaining globally, this rare Stutz Blackhawk won’t go cheap.
During the 1970s, the who’s-who of showbiz drove around tinseltown in cars such as this striking luxury tourer, the Stutz Blackhawk.
Elvis Presley was the first-ever owner of the Blackhawk, purchasing a late-stage prototype model in 1970.
Back then, Presley bought the luxury grand tourer for approximately $US26,500 (in 1970 dollars), with the “the King of Rock and Roll” purchasing another three examples in 1974. Only 16 Blackhawks reportedly remain today, making his example even more valuable.
The luxury tourer was devised in the United States, built on a Pontiac Grand Prix chassis and later converted in Italy. The conversion involved a full strip of the body, with the engine and transmission the only original components remaining.
The Blackhawk packs a 7.5-litre General Motors V8 engine, paired to a three-speed ‘TH400’ automatic transmission to produce a claimed 317kW and 570Nm.
A classic car import company in Australia, Import Direct, is currently selling a 1971 Blackhawk – number 17 of 25 ever built. This particular specification is finished in Battleship Gray with a red leather interior, and has received several modifications.
Details include period-correct RBT Astro fog lamps, chrome dummy side pipes, and Kelsey Hayes cast alloy wheels. The vehicle also boasts items such as power windows, a power sunroof, the original Lear Jet eight-track stereo, a newer AM/FM/CD player, factory-inspired fitted luggage behind the seats, power steering, power-assisted brakes, and a modern rotary-type air conditioning compressor.
The unique American-Italian vehicle is currently listed for purchase on Import Direct for approximately $US299,000, or just over $AU600,000 once imported to Australia. Click here to view the listing.
