2022 Audi Q5 price and specs

Audi’s best-selling model has gained three new limited editions, including one cutting the base price back below $70,000 – after a price rise in February pushed it over.

  • 2022 Audi Q5 pricing and specifications
  • 35 TDI Limited Edition offers front-wheel drive, sub-$70,000 price
  • Sport Limited Editions add some features, remove others
  • Range comprises five engines and 12 variants
  • Priced from $68,350 before on-road costs

The 2022 Audi Q5 and Q5 Sportback ranges have been expanded with a trio of special editions – including a new entry-level model dropping the price back below $70,000 before on-road costs.

On sale now, the three Q5 limited editions are badged 35 TDI Limited Edition, 40 TDI Sport Limited Edition and 45 TFSI Sport Limited Edition – and bring Audi’s medium SUV range to a total of 12 variants, across two body styles and five petrol or diesel engines.

Headlining the limited-run range is the 35 TDI Limited Edition, which cuts the price of entry to $68,350 plus on-road costs with a less potent 2.0-litre diesel engine, front-wheel drive – a first for the Q5 in Australia – and different, though not necessarily fewer, features.

While it’s marketed as a Limited Edition for now, Drive understands it’s set to join the range full-time next year.

Power in the 35 TDI comes from the 40 TDI’s 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder, though outputs are cut to 120kW and 370Nm (down 30kW/30Nm) – sent to the front wheels only through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It’s aided by an upgraded 12-volt start-stop system.

Compared to the variant above it, the 35 TDI loses a larger digital instrument cluster (12.3-inch vs 7.0-inch) and wireless phone charging – but adds privacy glass, heated front seats and colour ambient lighting, for a price about $5000 lower (compared to a Q5 40 TDI).

Meanwhile, the Q5 40 TDI and 45 TFSI Sport Limited Editions sit above the existing Sport variants, and add 20-inch wheels, privacy glass and colour ambient lighting – but, with a $1400 lower price, miss out on a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging due to chip shortages.

Also missing on the Limited Editions by semiconductor shortages are key safety features fitted as standard to much more affordable cars: blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear autonomous emergency braking, and safe exit warning.

Interestingly, these features are listed as available on the standard Q5 range, according to Audi Australia’s spec sheet – however for the latest information, contact your Audi dealer.

Wireless phone charging and power steering column adjustment are listed as unavailable on the core range for the time being, however.

The 40 TDI and 45 TFSI share seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearboxes, 12-volt start-stop (mild-hybrid) systems and all-wheel drive, mated to a 150kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder in the 40 TDI, or a 183kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder in the 45 TFSI.

Meanwhile, stepping up to the 50 TDI S Line version of the Q5 ‘wagon’ adds a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel V6, which routes 210kW and 620Nm to all four wheels through an eight-speed torque converter-type automatic transmission.

The flagship SQ5 adds a 251kW/700Nm version of the diesel V6, with an eight-speed auto and a more advanced all-wheel drive system capable of sending up to 85 per cent of power to the rear.

Zero to 100km/h sprint times are rated at 9.0 seconds for the 35 TDI, 7.6sec for the 40 TDI, 6.3sec for the 45 TFSI, 5.7sec for the 50 TDI, and 5.1sec for the SQ5.

Combined fuel consumption claims, by comparison, come in at 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres for the 35 TDI, 5.4L/100km for the 40 TDI, 8.0L/100km for the 45 TFSI, 6.8L/100km for the 50 TDI, and 7.0-7.1L/100km for the SQ5.

For a full list of standard features across each model variant, scroll down to the lists at the bottom of this story. A host of option packages and standalone items are available – explore these on the Audi Australia website here.

The prices listed for the Q5 range below incorporate increases of between $2800 and $3900 applied in February, due to rising material costs – rather than any additional standard features. Click here for the full story.
