- Single and dual-motor options available
- Glass roof, active safety tech all standard
- Priced from $74,990 before on-road costs
The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge small electric SUV will launch in Australia in the third quarter of 2022 (July to September), priced from $74,990 plus on-road costs.
The C40 is the coupe-styled twin to the popular XC40 Recharge Pure Electric launched in Australia last year, sharing its Volvo sibling’s choice of single or dual-motor drivetrains – but grafting on a sloping roofline aimed more at style and driving range, rather than practicality.
Over its standard sibling, the C40 – the first C-badged Volvo since the C30 hatch was axed in 2013 – costs $2000 more in single-motor trim, or $2500 more with dual electric motors.
Powering the entry-level single-motor model is a 170kW/330Nm electric motor on the front axle, paired with a 67kWh (usable capacity; or 69kWh total) battery good for a 7.4-second 0-100km/h time, and an estimated 434km of claimed WLTP driving range.
The flagship dual-motor (or ‘Twin Motor’) model features two 150kW electric motors and a 75kWh (usable; or 78kWh total) battery for combined outputs of 300kW/660Nm, a 4.7-second 0-100km/h time and an estimated 420km of claimed range.
DC fast charging at up to 150kW is standard, allowing for a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in as little as 32 minutes in the single-motor model, or 40 minutes with the dual-motor grade’s larger battery.
The C40 Recharge is both the first Volvo model to be offered solely with electric power, as well as the first to be “completely [anima] leather-free”.
Standard features include a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Google integration, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, glass roof, heated seats, hands-free power tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and a full suite of active safety technology.
Opting for the dual-motor model adds the upgraded mechanicals, plus 20-inch wheels (up from 19-inch units expected on the base car), a Harman Kardon sound system, textile and microtech upholstery, and a 360-degree camera.
The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge will arrive in Australian showrooms in the third quarter of 2022 (July to September), alongside the facelifted XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.
