Ferrari 296 GT3 race car previewed

Design sketches of the Ferrari 296 GT3 have been released, with the racer to replace the brand’s accomplished 488 model.

Ferrari has revealed the first sketches of the 296 GT3, the racing version of the new 296 GTB production supercar – and the replacement for the brand’s long-established V8-powered 488 GT3 competition car.

While performance details are yet to be confirmed, due to technical regulations the racer won’t be fitted with the same plug-in hybrid system as its road-based sibling – though it will feature six cylinders, like the 296 GTB.

Stylistically, highlights of the Ferrari 296 GT3 include large vents located on top of the enlarged front guards, along with a bigger front splitter and sizeable rear wing designed to provide ample aerodynamics and keep the rear-wheel-drive supercar planted to the ground.

The Italian car maker has confirmed the 296 GT3 is already in production, however no reveal date for the final car has been announced.

The racer is poised to make its racing debut in 2023 and will be eligible to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2024, when GTE machines are replaced by GT3 cars.
