Daniel Ricciardo’s 2022 McLaren F1 car given the Lego treatment

The Aussie Formula One ace’s race car has been scaled down with a replica engine and functional steering system.

Daniel Ricciardo‘s new 2022 McLaren Formula One car took thousands of man hours to develop and build – however, you can now put your own scaled-down version together in an afternoon.

Designated item number #42141, the newest addition to Lego’s automotive range comprises 1432 parts and measures 65cm from nose to tail. The highest point stands at 13cm, and the wheels are 27cm apart.

A replica V6 hybrid power unit – with moving pistons – is fitted behind the driver’s seat, while a functional steering wheel, suspension system, and differential are also included with the set.

The new model kit will not arrive in local stores until March 2022, however it will soon become available to pre-order online for $279.99 in Australia.

The 2022 McLaren Formula One joins Lego’s growing range of Technic car kits, including the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Lamborghini Sian, McLaren Senna, Aston Martin DB5, Ferrari 488, Land Rover Defender 90, Ford F-150 Raptor, and Bugatti Chiron, among others.

The real

McLaren race car the toy is based on was revealed at a launch event yesterday morning, and features low-profile tyres and simpler wings than the car it replaces, as part of a new set of technical regulations for 2022. The 2022 Formula One season begins on 20 March in Bahrain.
