2022 Haval H6 Hybrid set for Australia by May

Chinese brand Haval’s new hybrid H6 mid-size SUV is set to arrive slightly later than expected, as the company’s rival for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

The 2022 Haval H6 Hybrid will arrive in Australia in the coming months, as the most efficient member of the Haval H6 line-up – and the Chinese brand’s rival for the top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

Revealed last year, the H6 Hybrid mid-size SUV was initially confirmed for launch in the first three months of 2022 – however Drive understands new supply constraints have emerged that may push first deliveries back to April (though an exact timeline is yet to be confirmed).

Powering the H6 Hybrid is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a ‘two-speed’ 130kW electric motor – integrated into a dual-clutch automatic transmission – and a 1.8kWh battery to drive the front wheels.

The system quotes combined outputs of 179kW and 530Nm – nearly 20 per cent more power than its main rival, the front-wheel-drive Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (160kW), and up over the standard Haval H6’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine (150kW/320Nm).

Haval – the SUV sub-brand of Chinese car giant Great Wall Motors (GWM) – claims a combined fuel consumption claim of 5.2 litres per 100 kilometres, with 91RON regular unleaded supported. A comparable Toyota RAV4 Hybrid claims to sip 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

Prices are yet to be announced for Australia, however it’s fair to expect an increase of a few thousand dollars over the standard Haval H6 range, which is priced from $32,990 to $41,990 drive-away.

Details of standard equipment are also unconfirmed, however a single image released by GWM Haval’s local division shows a unique front bumper compared to that of 2.0-litre petrol variants, with 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2022 Haval H6 Hybrid is expected to go on sale in Australia before the end of May, with a launch in March or April looking likely (though pending full confirmation). Stay tuned to Drive for pricing and specification details, once they’re announced.
