2022 Ford Ranger Raptor: Fresh spy photos of new super-ute

A new round of spy photos from Thailand have provided our best glimpse to date of the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor. Here’s what the latest images reveal.

The 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor super-ute has been spotted testing on the streets of Thailand – where examples destined for Australia are manufactured.

Photos published on social media platform Instagram – by @kurdistan_automotive_blog – show a fleet of 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor utes wearing little disguise.

The photos lay bare for the first time the F-O-R-D grille, new beadlock-style off-road wheels, and large twin tailpipes.

Until now, the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor grille was masked, other test vehicles ran the alloy wheels from the current model, and it was unclear if the twin tailpipes were destined for production or were bolted to make it more convenient to conduct emissions tests.

Drive understands the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor is just weeks away from being unveiled in all its glory. Ford has previously hinted at a reveal sometime in February.

As reported earlier, the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor is expected to be powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine – sourced from the Ford Explorer ST in the US – paired to a 10-speed automatic and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system.

It is expected to deliver a significant performance boost compared to today’s Ford Ranger Raptor, which is powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine.

Other models in the 2022 Ford Ranger line-up – such as the top-end XLT, FX4 and Wildtrak models – will be available with the option of single-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel power sourced from the Ford F-150 pick-up in the US.
