Lexus LX600 Off-Road concept revealed

A dash of extra off-road capability for the large luxury Lexus four-wheel drive.

The Toyota LandCruiser-based 2022 Lexus LX600 has been given the off-road accessory treatment for display at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon modified car show.

Like previous generations, the luxury Lexus uses Toyota’s flagship LandCruiser off-roader as a base, which is then built up with additional technology, equipment and luxury touches.

Lexus teamed up with JAOS, a well-known aftermarket parts producer in Japan that offers a wide variety of off-road accessories for the likes of the Suzuki Jimny, Toyota LandCruiser Prado, Mitsubishi Delica and Toyota HiAce.

Along with some larger and more aggressive all-terrain tyres (Toyo Open Country A/T III in a 285/55R20 size) on Enkei-made 20-inch alloy wheels, the Lexus LX 600 Off-Road (officially branded ‘OFFROAD’) also gets small fender flares to help accommodate the bigger rubber.

There are also front and rear bash plates, with JAOS opting for lighter CFRP (carbon-fibre reinforced polymer) instead of the usual material choice of steel or aluminium.

Finally, the concept rounded off with JAOS mud flaps, emblazoned with a little bit of Australian flavour: the company logo of a hopping kangaroo.

The Lexus LX600 is powered by Lexus and Toyota’s latest 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 engine, which makes 305kW/650Nm, which is used in the Toyota LandCruiser four-wheel-drive and Tundra full-size pick-up in other countries.

Because Australia is such a strong diesel market, Lexus Australia will also introduce a diesel-powered LX500d when the luxury off-roader goes on sale locally later this year.

This diesel-powered Lexus LX will use the same 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged diesel V6 engine as the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, which makes 227kW/700Nm.
