Land Rover Defender 130 still under wraps amid fresh round of speculation
The internet has rediscovered patent drawings of the upcoming Land Rover Defender 130 – a stretched-body version of the current Land Rover Defender 110.
The patent drawings were published last year but there is a fresh round of speculation after motoring news sites around the world began copying each other’s homework over the weekend.
Land Rover Australia remains tight-lipped about the longer-bodied version of the popular Defender.
However, if the model goes into production, it is expected to be timed with a model-year update with the rest of the Defender range in 2023 or 2024.
Drive understands the Land Rover Defender 130 wheelbase – the distance between the front and rear wheels – is the same as the current Land Rover Defender 110, but the body length is stretched behind the rear wheels to create a larger cargo hold.
The Land Rover Defender 130 – as media speculation has dubbed it – would answer the call for those who want more room.
Although the Land Rover 110 is bigger bumper to bumper than the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series, it has a smaller cargo area.
The Land Rover Defender 130 – if it goes into production – would answer the call for more space, and be closer in size to the large SUVs sold in the US.
