‘Brand new’ 1993 Toyota HiLux sells for $US63,000

The one-owner single-cab ute with just 94 miles (151km) on the odometer sells for the equivalent of $AU87,500.

A virtually brand-new single-cab Toyota HiLux has sold at

Mecum’s Kissimmee 2022 auction in the US for the equivalent of $AU87,500. The final price of $US63,000 was well short of the upper end of the US$60,000-$80,000 estimate indicated prior to the auction.

The single-cab Toyota Pickup (as the US model is badged) – known in Australia as a HiLux – is powered by Toyota’s workhorse ’22R-E’ 2.4-litre inline four-cylinder petrol engine with 78kW and 184Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Finished in optional Forest Green paint with period-correct decals, this mint example of Toyota’s iconic workhorse ute is pretty basic in terms of equipment. The interior is finished in grey cloth, with manual windows, and an AM/FM only stereo system without a cassette deck or CD player.

Also included in the sale of the one-owner, original-condition Pickup is ephemera such as the original owner’s manual and sales brochure.

The 2.4-litre petrol Toyota HiLux single-cab with a five-speed manual transmission cost $AU28,264 when new in Australia in 1993.
