If you’re looking for a belated Christmas present, then this near-new 1993 Toyota HiLux could be for you. How new is near-new? Try a genuine 94 miles, or around 151km, on the odometer.
Set to go under the hammer in the U.S. at Mecum’s Kissimmee 2022 auction from January 6-16, the single-cab HiLux (known as the Toyota ‘Pickup’ in the United States) is powered by Toyota’s venerable workhorse 22R-E 2.4-litre inline four cylinder petrol engine making 78kW and 184Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
Typical of the era, the equipment list is pretty basic. Other than the optional lick of Forest Green paint, this mint example of Toyota’s iconic workhorse ute isn’t brimming with creature comforts. The interior is finished in grey cloth, the stereo system is AM/FM only without a cassette deck or CD player while the windows need to be wound down manually.
Outside, the chrome bumpers and grille surround look as fresh as the day they rolled off the production line while the original steel wheels are shod in Goodyear Wrangler AT rubber. The tray looks like it’s never carried a shopping bag let alone a load of tools or dirt, still immaculate in its unlined Forest Green state.
The one-owner example also comes with ephemera such as the original owner’s manual and sales brochure.
Mecum’s estimate ranges from US$60,000 to $80,000 (AUD$83,000-$110,000). You can check out Mecum’s full description here.
