2023 Range Rover Evoque price and specs: Plug-in hybrid added, diesel axed

Land Rover’s smallest SUV has gained a new $100,000-plus plug-in hybrid option for Model Year 2023 – at the expense of diesel power, and the entry-level petrol variant.

  • 2023 Range Rover Evoque pricing and specifications
  • Plug-in hybrid P300e variant added from $102,001
  • Three-model range loses diesel option
  • Prices start from $78,052 before on-road costs

Land Rover Australia has reshuffled its 2023 Range Rover Evoque range – adding a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, but deleting diesel and entry-level petrol engine options.

Available only in range-topping R-Dynamic HSE guise, the Evoque PHEV (known as the P300e overseas) is priced from $102,001 before on-road costs – making the baby Land Rover the most expensive model in the small SUV size class without a performance-car badge (such as Mercedes-AMG or Audi RS).

Below the new plug-in hybrid, the Evoque range has been simplified to two variants powered by the same petrol engine, R-Dynamic SE P250 and R-Dynamic HSE P250 – with the entry-level P200 R-Dynamic S petrol and mid-spec D200 R-Dynamic SE diesel variants axed for Model Year 2023 (MY23).

Prices have risen by $3476 for the R-Dynamic SE P250, or $3423 for the R-Dynamic HSE P250 compared to their MY22 equivalents. With the discontinuation of the entry-level P200 R-Dynamic S, the price of entry into a new Evoque has increased from $70,024 to $78,052 before on-road costs.

Evoque P250 variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 184kW and 365Nm to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Combined fuel economy is claimed at 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres, according to more lenient ADR testing.

Meanwhile, the new Evoque PHEV – also known as the P300e – pairs a 147kW 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder with an 80kW electric motor for combined outputs of 227kW and 540Nm, and a 6.4-second 0-100km/h time.

An onboard 15kWh lithium-ion battery pack enables 62km of claimed all-electric driving range, and a combined fuel economy claim according to Europe’s more stringent WLTP test protocols of 2.0L/100km (in hybrid mode).

The plug-in hybrid offers drivers a choice of Hybrid (petrol and electric), EV (electric-only, at speeds up to 135km/h) and Save (petrol-only, while maintaining the battery’s charge level) drive modes. Land Rover claims a 0-80 per cent recharge time of 30 minutes (at 32kW), on a DC fast charger.

Standard features across the Model Year 2023 Evoque range include 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, 10-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker sound system, electric front seats, and a full suite of active safety technologies (a full list is included at the bottom of this story).

While the 12-speaker Meridian sound system is new on the standard feature list for 2023, the digital instrument cluster and Touch Pro Duo climate control display previously standard on the R-Dynamic SE have been reverted to the options list.

Stepping up to R-Dynamic HSE variants – both petrol and plug-in hybrid – adds matrix LED headlights, the Touch Pro Duo screen, upgraded seat adjustment and sound system, Windsor leather upholstery (or a textile/suede combination), a new alloy wheel finish, and customisable drive modes (Configurable Dynamics).

A range of options are available, from circa-$200 standalone extras, to heated and ventilated front seats (and heated rear seats) for $3240, or the $3142 Premium Upgrade Interior Pack.

All available colours are included for no additional cost – with the exception of Silicon Silver and Carpathian Grey premium metallic finishes, which command $540 premiums.
