2015-2021 Toyota HiLux recalled in Australia

A manufacturing fault could cause the licence plate to fall off, according to the recall notice.

Toyota has recalled 156,838 examples of its 2015-2021 Toyota HiLux ute in Australia, citing a manufacturing fault.

The affected vehicles are stamped Model Years 2015-2021.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to poor stiffness of the rear licence plate bracket around the single mounting point, there is a possibility this may lead to cracking as a result of metal fatigue caused by vibration when driving on a rough (corrugated) roads.

“In this condition, the licence plate lamp wiring may sever, and the licence plate may dislodge from the vehicle.

“If the rear licence plate bracket becomes detached from the vehicle whilst it is being driven, it would increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to other road users and bystanders.”
