Kia EV9 electric SUV concept confirmed for Thursday reveal

Kia’s largest electric vehicle yet will be unveiled in concept guise this Thursday, with seven seats and nearly 500km of range expected.

Kia has teased a concept version of its second dedicated all-electric vehicle, slated for a global unveiling this Thursday: the Kia Concept EV9.

Teased with a single silhouette image, the new EV9 concept car will preview the second Kia model to ride on the Hyundai group’s dedicated E-GMP battery platform, a large seven-seat SUV sized similarly to the Hyundai Palisade and not-for-Australia Kia Telluride.

Previously rumoured to wear the EV7 or EV8 nameplate, the production EV9 is slated to launch in the US sometime next year, and will serve as a twin under the skin to the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7, also confirmed for unveiling in concept form later this month (known as the ‘Seven’).

Details of the EV9 are thin on the ground, though the teaser image suggests it will resemble the large SUV-like electric vehicle teased in dim lighting earlier this year, as one of four dedicated Kia electric SUVs based on the E-GMP platform due by 2027.

Using specifications reported for its Hyundai twin as a guide, expect a 100kWh battery beneath the floor and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive, enabling over 480km of claimed driving range.

Stay tuned to Drive for full details of the new Kia Concept EV9 following its global unveiling, slated for 11 November 2021 at 7pm AEDT (6pm QLD time).
