Australia’s Molly Taylor set for Dakar debut

Australian Rally Champion Molly Taylor will make her Dakar debut next year, as the first female from Australia to participate in the coveted motorsport event.

Australian rally ace Molly Taylor has been confirmed to race in the 2022 Dakar Rally.

Competing with South Racing, The 33 year-old will pair up with experienced co-driver, Dale Moscatt.

Taylor made the announcement over the weekend while reporting in pitlane during the Supercars broadcast.

“It’s a dream come true,” Taylor said.

“I’m incredibly excited to be taking on Dakar as a member of the Can-Am Factory South Racing team but also fully appreciate the challenge that lies ahead.

“This discipline is a new world for me and of course there’s pressure to learn quickly and to do well but I know the team, all of whom are experienced drivers are there to support me and have put in place everything possible to see me succeed.”

Along with her on-air TV commitments this year, Taylor has been competing in the Extreme E Series for Nico Rosberg’s team Rosberg X Racing. 

Together with teammate, Johan Kristofferson, the pair are currently 16 points clear in the 2021 Championship. 

This year has also seen Taylor participate in various FIA World Rally Championship events with M-Sport. 

In total there are four Australians taking on one of motorsport’s most gruelling events. Two-time Dakar winner, Toby Price will again be piloting a KTM, as will Andrew Houlihan.

Meanwhile, Daniel Saunders will return to the event behind the handlebars of a

GasGas motorcycle.

The 2022 Dakar Rally will take part in Ha’il in Saudi Arabia, commencing on January 1 and ending on January 14.
