2022 Skoda Karoq facelift due in Australia in March

Skoda’s mid-size SUV offering will undergo a mild facelift later this month, with first Australian arrivals due next March.

The facelifted 2022 Skoda Karoq mid-size SUV will be unveiled on 30 November 2021, ahead of an Australian launch slated for March 2022.

Skoda’s competitor to the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 and other top-selling medium SUVs, the Karoq is approaching four years on sale – following its Australian launch in July 2018 – making it prime for a mid-life update, just months after its larger, seven-seat Kodiaq range-mate.

Spied testing in Europe in recent months, changes for the facelifted Karoq are likely to be minor. Few details have been confirmed officially, however updates are expected to comprise a revised front end incorporating tweaked headlights, updated tail-light graphics, and the addition of Skoda’s latest-generation infotainment software.

The updated Karoq range will continue to offer a choice of two petrol variants: an entry-level, front-wheel-drive 110TSI Style, and a range-topping, all-wheel-drive 140TSI Sportline.

No changes will be made under the bonnet in Australia, meaning a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo four-cylinder and eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission in the 110TSI Style, and a 140kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in the 140TSI Sportline.

Drive understands there are no current plans to switch back to the more efficient 1.5-litre turbo engine and seven-speed dual-clutch auto pairing fitted to the 110TSI in 2018 and 2019 – but subsequently removed as production was prioritised for Europe where strict emissions regulations apply.

Prices for the current Skoda Karoq range span from $38,990 drive-away for the 110TSI Style, to $45,990 drive-away for the 140TSI Sportline. Should the level of standard equipment be increased for the updated model – as was the case with the facelifted Kodiaq – expect prices to rise by a few thousand dollars.

The 2022 Skoda Karoq will be unveiled in full on 30 November 2021, ahead of its Australian launch in March 2022. Stay tuned to Drive for the latest Karoq news.
