2022 Peugeot 508 price and specs: GT Plug-in Hybrid arrives from $76,990

Peugeot’s mid-size 508 sedan adds a hybrid option, with 55km of driving range – though buyers will pay for the privilege.

The 2022 Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-in Hybrid will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2022 (January to March), priced from $76,990 before on-road costs.

Available only in four-door Fastback guise, the plug-in hybrid 508 will kickstart Peugeot Australia’s local electrification rollout – but in doing so becomes the most expensive Peugeot sedan sold in Australia in nearly two decades, and the dearest model in the mid-size car “below $60,000” segment.

Powering the 508 PHEV is a 133kW 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to an 81kW electric motor and eight-speed automatic transmission to send 165kW to the front wheels. An 11.8kWh battery enables 55km of all-electric driving range according to European WLTP testing, joined by a range of electric drive modes including ‘e-Save’.

Standard equipment is expected to mirror the GT variant on which it’s based, including a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, nappa leather upholstery, and a full suite of active safety technologies.

The 2022 Peugeot 508 GT Fastback Plug-in Hybrid will launch in Australia early next year – though buyers will be able to get an early taste of the vehicle ahead of launch, through “exclusive” experiences with dealers.
