2022 Kia Niro teased ahead of Thursday’s reveal

Here’s your first official look at the new Kia Niro, ahead of its full reveal on Thursday, and Australian launch by the end of 2022.

The 2022 Kia Niro has been teased, ahead of its full reveal this Thursday, 25 November 2021.

Teased in a set of dark sketches (brightened in this story), the second-generation Niro draws clear inspiration from the Habaniro concept of 2019 (that name being no coincidence), with distinctive front and rear LED light signatures taken straight from Kia’s show car.

The rear-end teaser confirms the availability of the contrasting C-pillar seen in spy photos (and on the 2019 concept), while the arches are filled by large Y-spoke alloy wheels (though they won’t be as large as the teaser sketches suggest).

Inside, there’s an evolution of the twin-screen dashboard seen in the new EV6 and Sportage, with two circa-12.3-inch displays integrated into one curved panel, joined by a two-spoke steering wheel, rotary gear selector, and touch-sensitive climate controls.

As reported, the new Kia Niro is slated to launch in Australia in the second half of 2022 – some 18 months after the first-generation model, which has been on sale overseas since 2016 – as the Korean brand’s electrified offering in the small SUV segment.

‘Self-charging’ hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains will eventually be available, though it remains to be seen whether all three will be available in Australia at launch.

The 2022 Kia Niro will be revealed in full at the Seoul Mobility Show on Thursday, 25 November 2021 at 1:30pm AEDT (12:30pm AEST). Stay tuned to Drive for full details.
