2022 Acura Integra teaser confirms five-door liftback body
Integra coupe fans, look away: the reborn icon will prioritise sales over shape with a five-door body.
The reborn 2022 Acura Integra was been teased again by the Honda-owned luxury brand overnight – and fans hoping for the return of a coupe body will be disappointed.
Joining the front-end image released in August, Acura’s latest teaser confirms the new Integra will be a five-door liftback, similar to larger cars such as a Audi A5 or Kia Stinger – and while a two-door variant hasn’t been ruled out, slowing (and already niche) sales have likely stymied the return of an Integra coupe.
It’s not the first Integra to be offered with five doors, as the first-generation model (pictured in the gallery below) could be had in liftback form, alongside traditional coupe and sedan body styles.
The new rear-end teaser echoes the styling themes seen up front, with Acura’s V-shaped LED signature reflected in the tail-lights, and smooth surfacing featured across the rear haunches and tailgate. Black window trim and a small lip spoiler also feature.
Slated for a US launch in mid-2022 – but unlikely to be built in right-hand drive, ruling out an Australian launch – the new Acura Integra will serve as an indirect replacement for the ageing ILX small sedan in the United States, and is slated to share a platform with the new Honda Civic (not to be confused with the rebadged ‘Honda Integra’ sold in China).
Leaked details in 2020 suggested the introduction of a Type S performance flagship. Performance and engine details are yet to be confirmed, however the shared underpinnings suggest a detuned version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder set for use in the next Civic Type R – possibly with outputs matching the 203kW/380Nm of the larger Acura TLX.
Further details of the 2022 Acura Integra will be confirmed closer to its US launch in the northern spring of 2022 (March to May). Stay tuned to Drive for all the latest updates.
