2015-16 Mazda BT-50 recalled for shifter fix

Mazda Australia has issued a recall for its BT-50 ute sold during 2015 and early-2016, over concerns manual examples could experience a loss of drive.

The Japanese manufacturer says affected utes could be fitted with a gearshift cable retaining clip that isn’t fully engaged, which could lead to the gearshift cables moving out of position and contacting the propeller shaft.

If the condition occurs, continued contact between these components could cause damage to both, resulting in difficulty changing gears or even loss of drive. Mazda says this poses an accident risk.

Affected BT-50 utes were sold from 14 July 2015 through 2 February 2016. The VIN list for these units can be viewed here.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted by Mazda Australia via mail, and advised to contact their local dealer to arrange the inspection and repair of their BT-50. For more information, contact 1800 034 411.
