Range Rover Velar gets five-star ANCAP rating

The 2018 Range Rover Velar has been awarded the full five-star safety rating from independent crash-testing authority ANCAP this week.

Scoring 35.5 out of 38 for adult occupant protection (93 per cent), the Velar impressed with a strong performance across the board, including full marks in the side impact and pole tests.

The Velar did well in terms of child occupant protection too, managing 85 per cent – which ANCAP rates as “good”.

Helping the new Range Rover to achieve the result is the standard inclusion of high-speed autonomous emergency braking (AEB) across the range, which also features pedestrian protection, along with a lane departure warning system.

“The Velar arrives to our market with strong all-round safety performance resulting in a five-star ANCAP safety rating,” said ANCAP CEO, James Goodwin.

“Maximum points were scored for adult occupants in these two lateral crash tests, and child occupant protection – which looks at the protection offered for a six-year-old and 10-year-old child – was also good.”

However, the Velar did only achieve a ‘Marginal’ rating for rear seat adult occupant chest protection in the full-width frontal test.
