Gordon Murray to launch new sports car in November

Overnight Gordon Murray confirmed he is starting up a new low volume car manufacturing company, and its first product will be a car inspired by the McLaren F1.

The first vehicle to be produced by Gordon Murray Automotive will be a new “flagship model” that sees a “return to the principles applied to the McLaren F1“.

Like other low volume vehicle to be produced by Gordon Murray Automotive, the new sports car will “buck the current trend for ever more complicated and heavy vehicles” and will be based on the latest version of Murray’s iStream “revolutionary automotive production system”.

According to Murray: “The new manufacturing business significantly expands the capabilities of our group of companies. With our first new car, we will demonstrate a return to the design and engineering principles that have made the McLaren F1 such an icon.”

The iStream production concept was originally demonstrated on high efficiency city cars, but a carbon-fibre evolution was recently revealed to be at the heart of the upcoming TVR rebirth.

More details of Gordon Murray’s new sports car will be announced at the One Formula exhibit, which kicks off on November 3, European time.

The exhibition chronicles Murray’s fifty years in the automotive business, and will include road and race cars penned by the famed designer.

2017 not only marks Murray’s 50th year in the game, but also the 25th anniversary of the McLaren F1 entering production, and the 10th anniversary of Gordon Murray Design.
