Roewe Vision-E concept previews 2018 crossover
The Roewe Vision-E concept made its debut at the Shanghai motor show, and shouldn’t be confused with the Skoda Vision E concept.
A production car based on the Vision-E will reportedly go into production in 2018. We expect that car to lose the concept’s suicide doors, and it will likely feature a toned version of both the interior and exterior.
There are few concrete details about the Vision-E, except that it’s meant to be a pure EV with electric motors for both the front and rear axles.
According to Car News China, the Roewe Vision E’s electric drivetrain is capable of propelling the SUV from 0-100km/h in under four seconds. Driving range is said to be around 500km.
The Roewe brand was established in 2006 by SAIC as a successor to Rover, after the Chinese automaker was unable to secure rights to the marque after BMW sold the brand to Ford, which at the time owned Jaguar and Land Rover.
In 2015, SAIC purchased the MG brand, and the technology underpinning the Rover 25 hatch and 75 sedan, as well as its MG equivalents.
SAIC is currently a joint venture partner with GM and Volkswagen. With the American automaker, SAIC produces cars under the Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Baojun and Wuling nameplates.
In partnership with Volkswagen, SAIC makes Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles. As noted at the top of this article, Skoda unveiled the similarly named Vision E concept at the 2017 Shanghai show, although there’s no indication that the two cars are related.
